Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can treat a real mixed bag of conditions, symptoms, illnesses and pain. It just comes down to clinical questioning, pulse and tongue diagnosis, to determine the correct treatment.
A few things I’ve been treating recently in clinic:
Insomnia, Stress and Exhaustion
These are possibly the most common things I see in clinic. Often all three together and mixed with other issues like anxiety and neck pain. Sometimes they may not be the main complaint, but perhaps part of the overall health picture.
As acupuncture works on regulating the nervous system, it is particularly good at inducing a calming and relaxed feeling, and there are even specific acupuncture points that help induce sleep.
Herbs are a really great addition to take at home if you are struggling to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Recurrent colds
Especially this time of year, head colds are really commonly seen and well understood in Chinese medicine. Maybe you got sick a lot in childhood, had asthma, or it’s a more recent development for you… acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help clear out old, lingering pathogens and strengthen your immune system.
Calf cramps during pregnancy
Of course, you don’t have to be pregnant to experience calf cramps. But in Chinese medicine, a reason that someone might experience this during pregnancy is because the blood is being drawn to the uterus to grow the baby. As the circulation around the uterus and placenta increases, the circulation in other parts of the body may decrease.
Muscles and tendons need blood to function, so if there is a previous weakness in an area, that's where the ache and pain will show up.

Frozen shoulder and menopause
Perhaps surprisingly, frozen shoulder is very common in perimenopausal people, especially between the age of 40-60.
The explanation can be similar to the one above, but here we also have Qi and blood stasis, which often causes the pain and that stuck feeling.
Cupping and acupuncture locally, as well as distally can help.
As the pain will be located in slightly different areas for everyone, we will palpate the meridian for the points that are most sore and needle these. There is also a point on the leg, especially for shoulder pain!
Breakouts and an irregular cycle
Everyone who menstruates can probably attest to the fact that it’s normal to have some pimples come up around their period.
Whether it's a small amount or a lot, either can be very upsetting and the confidence can take a hit.
Local acupuncture can be beneficial when there is a flare, and again, depending on the cause, specific herbs can target the type of pimple.
