IS OSTEOPATHY COVERED BY MEDICARE?

Some common names for plans that enable you to obtain a partial rebate for your Osteopath appointments include Chronic Disease Management (CDM)/Enhanced Primary Care (EPC).

Simply put, Osteopathy can be partially covered by Medicare!

Your GP will give you a referral letter.

You will need a current Medicare card & a valid EFTPOS/debit card to ensure swift processing of the rebate.

The full consultation fee is to be paid at the time of consultation.

The Medicare rebate of $61.80 can be processed immediately at the clinic on presentation of your Medicare card & EFTPOS card.

HOW MANY VISITS CAN I GET WITH THE MEDICARE REBATE?

Your GP can refer you for up to 5 sessions to any allied health professional.

This number is reviewed each year & you will need a new referral letter for each calendar year.

Your Osteopath is required to communicate with your GP after the first & last session, to inform of the treatment provided & the progress over the course of the sessions.

HOW DOES THE MEDICARE REBATE PROCESS ACTUALLY WORK?

This will occur at the end of the consultation with your Osteopath and is a

straight-forward & relatively quick process.

·         Pay the full consultation fee.

·         Swipe your Medicare card to access the rebate.

·         Insert your EFTPOS debit card into the terminal to accept the rebate back into your account.  This will NOT work with a credit card.

HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THIS MEDICARE PLAN?

Generally, you will need to have a chronic condition, one that has been present for 3-6 months or longer. 

There is no list of eligible conditions and this should be a discussion had with your GP. 

This plan is designed for patients who require a structured approach to their care, enabling the GP to co-ordinate the care of complex conditions that require ongoing care from a multi-disciplinary team.
